I’m looking to move. My no car garage with a house on a busy street sucks. Mainly because of the busy road and no neighborhood or kids for my miniWRX’s. I’d love to have a quiet street for them with other kids. Well I found a great house, it would be about an equal price to mine in the next town over but my wife does not approve. Its on a dirt road. This is how we see it
I dont see a problem with either. In reality, i wouldn;t want to live on a muddy mess but i didn;t even notice it was a dirt road until i got out to talk to a neighbor. there are mountain bike trails nearby but also a gun club which could be noisy. The back yard in fenced in, there are kids around the corner. The battle begins.

I’ve lived on some dirt roads. It’s really not that big of a deal for the non-rally types. It won’t turn into a muddy mess if it’s properly graded and maintained.

yea this thing was solid, the neighbors say its well maintained by the town. I’m actually surprised there are still streets (at least around here) that are not paved. Its about 1 mile from the highway and 20 miles from Boston.

Dirt, or dirty gravel? It also would help to know what kind of dirt and what your annual rainfall looks like. Nice sandy bond is typically fine for whatever, but if you’d got clays lurking around, DANGER WILL ROBINSON.

Is it wrong of me that I like both of those pictures?

how far away is the gun club? my parents live a couple miles from one and you only hear it on the weekend when you're outside really, it's not all that loud unless your right next door

yea its like 1/3 - 1/2 mile its like 2 or 3 street down the main road

At first I thought the street was just really dirty. I’d guess it was probably a composite mix of something put down by the city as it didn;t look like the dirt in the yards. It was more grayish and hard packed and smooth. It can rain around here, this winter we had all time high snowfall.

haha i had a hard time finding a road for ‘her’ cuz everything that came up in google looked awesome. If you look at it from here point of view the muddy one is pretty revolting, i guess.

that might be a bit close, but it's all up to you though. if you're serious about it I would head out there on a nice day on the weekend and hear for yourself how loud it is

My daughters would love it. Conversation from the other day:
My daughter: dad lets do a mud splash
Me: It hasn’t rained in a while so there aren’t any mudsplashes right now
Daughter: okay, well let go to Moab and mudsplash again
Me: thats a long drive, are you sure your up for it?
Daughter: Yeah and we can see the frogs and I will have lots of water to drink
Me: okay then, I guess its time for another ‘venture drive.
she’s 4

I think you win the dirt road discussion, but I don’t know if I would want to live that close to a gun range. Actually, I do know...I wouldn’t.

Probably road bond. It’s fine in the rain, really, as long as there’s regular scraping to kill potholes. Fine in the winter, too, unless some JEENYUS puts down salt. Then you’re epically hosed - that draws water up into it and makes it slimy and nearly impossible to get right in wet conditions again without scraping it all off.

lol thats awesome. My girls (3yrs) yell for me to go faster. our street is 45 mph so i have fun getting there quick sometimes and they love it and say again again. if theres no one around i’ll slow down to like 20 and floor it back to 45.

that sounds like an awesome mix to have caked all over your car too. the house is only like 1/8th -1/4 mile up the road so its not like shed have to be on it for long.

My dad lives about a mile and a half up a non-maintained dirt/gravel road which is uphill the whole way. It doesn’t really get too muddy (because it’s the side of a freaking mountain), is fun to rally up, and in the winter there’s enough gravel and crap that I’ve made it up without any issue in my crown vic (so RWD) on snow tires.
If she’s afraid of the cars getting dirty a lot, well, I can’t help you there, because they will. But how is that a problem, again?
